东方人喜欢在见面的时候间问对方:"你是哪里人?"但是对于喜欢搬家的美国人而言,他们的回答可能会是这么一串:"我出生于……，在……长大，现在在……。"有些人甚至会误以为你有种族歧视才问这种问题，因而可能反问why?。大多数的西方人个性爽朗,经常把笑容挂在脸上,对不熟识的人也能像老朋友一样聊天,所以千万不要因为对方亲切的笑容而以为:"他对我有意思!".

　　初次见面的人常以Where are you from?　作为打开话匣子的conversation opener(开场白)。 be from 和come from 意思一样，都是对话中常用的重要片语。

想必各位对于to tell （you）the truth 这个片语已经耳熟了，它的意思相当于as a matter of fact，以一个字来说就是actually，在说出令对方感到惊异的消息之前，不妨先加上这个片语：
To tell the truth ,I don't like my job.
（其实我并不喜欢我的工作。）
"出生"的英文是was born ，使用被动态，是为了表现"出生"这个动作的非自主性。born的原形bear有"生孩子"，"结果实"，"忍受"等意思。[
